A ripping success

Dear Editor:The Snowmass Village Recreation Department held its first skateboard event on Saturday, July 11. Skateboarders from beginners through advanced descended on the Snowmass Village Skate Park to show their skills in the street, best trick, pool and jam categories. A healthy total of 23 competitors registered in the street/jam division and 18 in the best trick and pool sections. Thank you to all the skateboarders who competed at such a high level and entertained the crowd of 75-100 strong throughout the day. We were all very amazed at what you can do.Thank you to all of our sponsors for making the day such a huge success. Thank you to Red Bull for all the free product and prizes. Your support of grassroots skateboarding is always greatly appreciated. Thank you to our emcee extraordinaire, Travis McClain from Radio Boardshop, who kept the event running smoothly and the crowd entertained. To our judges, Sammy Shea from Polar Revolution and Alex Reyes and Justin Witney from Radio Boardshop, you guys are true professionals. Thank you again for all that you do in the community.
