A memorable classic

Dear Editor:I have had the joy of visiting Aspen this past couple of weeks. From the physics lectures at the institute, dinner at Syzygy, tea at Explore, skiing on Aspen Mountain and attending the Wilder Dwight Memorial Classic on Jan. 12-14, it was a wonderful homecoming. The Aspen Ski and Snowboard Club held a 20th Anniversary Banquet at the T-Lazy 7 for the J3 and J4 racers participating in the Wilder Dwight Memorial Classic. This beautiful place was the perfect venue for this event. Not only was the food delicious, but the people serving were most welcoming and warm. There are numerous thank-yous I would like to give, starting with Mark Cole, Pat Callahan and Kathleen Joyce at the Aspen Ski and Snowboard Club. A very special hug to Ryan Smalls who stood in for Wilder’s guardian, Jimmie Heuga, scheduled to be the master of ceremonies. Jimmie promised to attend next year. The racers and their families expressed their gratitude for the excellent treatment they received – from the course preparation and grooming to all the fun they had at the banquet Saturday night. Many volunteers were friends of Wilder’s and those who never met him were there in force as well. I extend a special thank you to them.Wilder’s spirit is alive and well in Aspen, and those who loved him are very grateful for that.P.S.: Kudos to the Nakagawas.Sheri DwightSeattle
