‘A Fierce Green Fire’ showing as part of Naturalist Nights

Naturalist Nights, presented by Roaring Fork Valley conservation groups, will feature a free screening of an environmental film this week.

“A Fierce Green Fire: The Battle for a Living Planet” will be shown at 5:30 p.m. today in Carbondale’s Third Street Center and at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies.

The movie explores the environmental movement’s actions over 50 years on issues ranging from conservation to climate change. It focuses on grassroots and global activism — people fighting to save their homes, their lives and the future.

It was directed by Mark Kitchell and narrated by Robert Redford, Ashley Judd, Van Jones, Isabel Allende and Meryl Streep. Kitchell also was director of the Oscar-nominated film “Berkeley in the Sixties.”

The Naturalist Nights series is presented by the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies, Wilderness Workshop and Roaring Fork Audubon.
