Basalt’s small, new ice rink won’t be able to make its debut as planned on Saturday, the town government announced Friday.
Temperatures didn’t drop low enough to freeze the ice sheet well enough, according to Lisa DiNardo, the staff member in charge of the project. “The top layer is still kind of slushy,” she said.
A donation by the Lions Club allowed the town to purchase a kit for the 28-by-52-foot rink. It was erected between the Wyly Community Arts Center and the stage in Lions Park.
The opening date is weather dependent, DiNardo said.
