City wants feedback on X Games concerts

The city of Aspen is seeking feedback from residents and business owners concerning the impacts of the X Games concerts scheduled for Jan. 25 and 26 in Wagner Park.

The public meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday in the basement of City Hall. City and ESPN staff will be on hand to answer questions and field comments about street closures, parking restrictions and other impacts in the downtown core during the concerts, which are scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 each night, with an opening act and headliner.

Scott Kenner, Aspen special events permit coordinator, said the city will be reaching out to residents, business owners, hotel owners, guests and property managers throughout the month leading up to the X Games.

On Jan. 25 and 26, Durant Avenue will be closed from 2:30 to 8 p.m. between Monarch Avenue and Galena Street. Monarch between Hyman and Durant avenues will be closed on Jan. 25 and 26 and possibly a few days leading up to the concerts.

The concert stage will be built in Wagner Park on Jan. 23 and will be removed on Jan. 28. Kenner said parking restrictions will be in place during the concerts to allow for increased bus traffic, and the extent of those restrictions will be announced during Monday’s meeting.
