90-day drilling restriction dropped from rules
September 8, 2008
DENVER ” A 90-day oil and gas drilling restriction during key wintering and breeding periods for animals such as elk, mule deer will be dropped from proposed rules after opposition from industry.
Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission acting director David Neslin said they’re trying to come up with a process to attract the broadest support.
Wildlife and conservation groups supported the rule affecting 12 species that also included pronghorn antelope and Sage-grouse. The focus of the rule was the Piceance Basin, scene of a drilling boom and home to large populations of deer, elk and Sage-grouse.
