‘The Fifth Estate’ to close out Aspen Filmfest
The 35th annual Aspen Filmfest, set for Sept. 25 through 29 and presented by Aspen Film, will close with “The Fifth Estate,” a thriller based on the story of the covert data website WikiLeaks. “The Fifth Estate” will show Sept. 29 at Paepcke Auditorium.
Filmfest will be presented at Paepcke Auditorium and the Isis Theater. (The Wheeler Opera House, the usual home of Filmfest, is shut for renovations.) The complete schedule for the festival will be available online beginning Friday. Tickets will go on sale Sept. 11 at www.aspen showtix.com.
“The Fifth Estate” is directed by Bill Condon, whose previous films include “Dreamgirls,” “Kinsey” and the “Twilight” movies. The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch as WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, with Daniel Bruhl as his colleague Daniel Dornscheit-Berg. The supporting cast includes Stanley Tucci, Laura Linney and David Thewlis. The screenplay, by Josh Singer, is based on the books “Inside WikiLeaks” and “Wikileaks.” The film, which will show at the Toronto International Film Festival in early September, is set for a theatrical release in October.
