Hiker assisted off Aspen’s Sunnyside Trail

Staff report

Mountain Rescue Aspen was called to the Sunnyside Trail on Saturday to assist a 54-year-old woman who injured her ankle.

The woman and her son were about ¾ mile up the trailhead off McLain Flats Road and about 500 yards from the nearest homes in the Starwood subdivision, according to a statement by the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office. The son called for help at about 12:21 p.m. and reported his mother could not walk.

Members of Mountain Rescue Aspen assembled at the C.B. Cameron Rescue Center and nine members went into the field at about 1:16 p.m. They reached the hiker at 1:57 p.m., placed her on a litter and carried her out to Mountain Rescue Aspen vehicles. She declined ambulance service and was assisted by her son.

All members of the rescue team were out of the field by 3:51 p.m.
