Basalt police, firefighters to host ‘Night Out’

Staff report

The Basalt Police and Fire departments will team for the second consecutive year to participate in the National Night Out program.

Police officers, firefighters and emergency medical responders will be at Lions Parks in Basalt, where Town Hall is located, from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Lions Club will provide a free dinner. All midvalley residents are welcome.

“It’s an opportunity for community members to come out and meet our officers,” Police Chief Greg Knott said.

The Police Department is fully staffed at 10 officers after filling some vacancies recently. The department also has a community safety officer and an administrator.

Representatives of the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office also will be at Night Out.

National Night Out will be held for the 31st year. It is a program where fire and police departments team to promote awareness and safety and to strengthen community bonds.
