Aspen Film will host two preview screenings of “Southpaw,” a new film starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a troubled boxer.

The film, by “Training Day” director Antoine Fuqua and “Sons of Anarchy” writer Kurt Setter, will play at the Isis Theater on July 21. It will be released nationally three days later.

Following its world premiere at the Shanghai Film Festival this week, “Southpaw” is among the summer’s most anticipated dramas, with Gyllenhaal generating Oscar buzz for his performance and extreme physical transformation into light heavyweight champion Billy “The Great” Hope. The Hollywood Reporter called Gyllenhaal “the main attraction” in the new film, which co-stars Rachel McAdams.

When tragedy strikes the reigning champion and his lifelong manager (Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson) leaves him behind, Hope hits rock bottom and turns to an unlikely savior at a run-down local gym: Tick Willis (Forest Whitaker), a retired fighter and trainer. With his future riding on Tick’s guidance and tenacity, Hope enters the hardest battle of his life as he struggles with redemption and to win back the trust of those he loves.

Free admission is on a first come basis. A free admission line will form at the theater 30 minutes prior to each screening. A $25 tax-deductible donation to Aspen Film guarantees priority admission; a $50 tax-deductible donation includes priority admission and reserved section seating.
