Anna Louise (Redwood) Slogan

1977 - April 13, 2015

Anna Louise (Redwood) Slogan, aged 37, of Lower Hutt, New Zealand, passed away suddenly on April 13, 2015, in Wellington. She was the beloved wife of Donald “Slugo” Slogan and mother to Molly, age 31⁄2, and her newborn sister.

Anna was born in New Zealand in 1977 to Marian and Tony Redwood, and was the little sister of Simon and Hamish Redwood; much loved daughter-in-law of Donald and Lynne Slogan of Pittsburgh and sister-in-law of Scott and Julie of Basalt & Kim and Robb of Pittsburg.

Anna first came to Aspen in 2000 as a seasonal employee of Aspen Mountain Lift Operations and later would make the valley her full-time home for the better part of 10 years. She held positions as a lead on the Silver Queen Gondola at Ajax, at the Butcher’s Block, in administration for Aspen Mountain Lift Maintenance, for the Aspen Recreation Center and Community Development department, Aspen Mulling Spices and in landscaping.

In her 20s Anna enjoyed traveling, snowboarding, hiking and mountain biking. She held an interest in wellness and spiritual development and earned a massage certification in New Zealand.

She met the love of her life and future husband over “a few” pints at the Red Onion in Aspen. They enjoyed many adventures together and later would relocate to New Zealand, where they began a family by the ocean in Wellington.

She had a relaxed, kind and welcoming nature. She was a friend to all, “nana” to fellow expats and family member of both the Pomeroy Sports and broader Aspen community.

Being the amazing woman that she was, as her final act of bravery, she brought her and Slugo’s little baby girl into the world. Born at 3:17 a.m. on April 13. She weighed a healthy 8 pounds, 9 ounces and is being looked after in intensive care, where she is getting stronger by the day.

Wells Fargo set up the Anna Slogan Memorial Benefit for Slugo and the girls. There will be a celebration of her life at 5 p.m. Friday, April 17 at the Red Onion in Aspen. All are welcome.
