Injured ATV driver assisted by Basalt firefighters

Basalt firefighters on Wednesday assisted a driver who rolled an all-terrain vehicle on a secluded mountainside known as The Crown.

The 71-year-old man was able to use his cellphone to call for aid at about 3:42 p.m., according to Basalt Fire Department Division Chief Richard Cornelius. The man reported that he injured a wrist. Firefighters used an all-terrain vehicle to locate him. They helped roll his ATV upright and transported him off the mountain by 6:30 p.m., Cornelius said.

The man’s injuries weren’t serious enough to require transport to the hospital, Cornelius said. Responders were going to give him a ride to where his truck and trailer were parked.
