A Basalt woman faces charges in connection with a fatal accident that occurred late Saturday evening on Highway 133 north of Redstone.
Christine Tinner, 46, has been cited for two misdemeanors: careless driving causing death and failure to drive in a single lane, according to Colorado State Patrol spokesman Trooper Nate Reid.
Meleyna Kistner, 21, of Naperville, Illinois, was killed in the crash, and her passenger, Daniel Thul, 22, of Bloomington, Illinois, was injured. Tinner was driving north in a 2010 Honda hatchback that crossed the center lane, hitting Kistner’s southbound 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier head on, the State Patrol said.
Police said the accident occurred around 9 p.m. near mile marker 56. Neither alcohol nor drugs are being considered as contributing factors in the crash, police said.
Kistner was pronounced dead at the scene, the State Patrol said. Both Thul and Tinner were transported to Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs with serious injuries.
It is not known if they have been released from the health-care facility. A hospital representative did not return phone messages left by The Times on Tuesday or Wednesday.
