Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers has set aside the weekend of Sept. 6 and 7 for trail reparation work on Mount Sopris.
Volunteers will backpack to camp at Thomas Lakes on the night of Sept. 5 and work from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. the following two days.
The nonprofit hopes to recruit as many as 40 volunteers.
Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers will provide technical supervision, project tools, water filtration, cooking equipment and campsite needs along with all volunteer meals from breakfast on Sept. 6 through lunch on Sept. 7. Volunteers need to bring their own camping gear, headlamp, rain protection, warm clothing layers, snacks, closed-toe shoes and work gloves.
The project is part of Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers’ “50 Years of Wilderness” celebration partnership with Wilderness Workshop and the U.S. Forest Service. Other sponsors include the National Forest Foundation, the Environment Foundation, Sopris Realty, Bristlecone Mountain Sports, Martin Insurance Group and Days Inn Carbondale.
