A funeral has been scheduled for Mayra and Eliseo Lopez, and fundraising efforts have been launched to assist their sons.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Farnum Holt Funeral Home at 405 W. Seventh St. in Glenwood Springs.
A funeral for the couple will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s of the Crown Catholic Church in Carbondale.
A rosary will be held following the service. A burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Carbondale on Friday at 10 a.m.
The Lopezes were allegedly shot and killed by their nephew, Williams Anderson Amaya, on Saturday. He is being held on two counts of first-degree murder.
The Lopezes have two teenage sons who are being taken care of by family. A fundraiser will be held at Basalt’s Wednesday night concert to benefit the boys. The Basalt Regional Heritage Society will donate proceeds from its annual fried chicken dinner to the family. Boy Scout Troop 242 will assist the heritage society in hosting the event.
The dinner will be served starting at 5 p.m. in Basalt’s Lions Park. The concert begins at 5:30 p.m.
Friends also have started the Lopez Memorial Fund at Alpine Banks. Contributions can be made at any Alpine Bank in the region.
Mayra Lopez was a nurse’s aide at Basalt public schools and was immensely popular with students and their parents. Eliseo was an electrician and construction worker. Friends said they were dedicated to their boys, Eliseo Lopez, 13, and Jesse Gabriel Lopez, 14.
