Breaking news: Victims identified in El Jebel shooting

The victims of a fatal shooting in El Jebel on Saturday night were identified by the Eagle County Coroner’s Office Sunday at Mayra Lorena Lopez, 40, and Eliseo Lopez, 42.

They were found dead in their home at 160 Arapahoe in the Sopris Village subdivision. That is in unincorporated Eagle County in the El Jebel area.

Williams Anderson Amaya, 33, was arrested for suspicion of the shooting at his place of employment in Glenwood Springs early Sunday morning, according to Eagle County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Jessie Mosher. The sheriff’s office asked the suspect’s cell phone company to “ping” his phone, Mosher said. That led authorities to Amaya’s workplace. He surrendered without incident at about 5:40 a.m. after a detective reached Amaya by phone made him aware that a SWAT team was outside the place where he worked, Mosher said.

Eagle County deputies were called to the residence at Sopris Village at 11:17 p.m. Saturday. The suspect was reported to have fled before a deputy arrived a short time after the call.

Amaya was renting a room in the residence where the shooting occurred, according to authorities.

The Lopez’s have two sons who were home at the time of the shooting, Mosher said. They were unharmed, she said. Authorities believe the two boys are in their early teens.

Amaya is being held in Eagle County Jail. No bond amount has been set yet. Detectives are investigating a motive, Mosher said.
