July 4 fireworks still a go
Friday’s Fourth of July fireworks display over Aspen Mountain is still a go, officials said Monday.
Some Colorado municipalities, including Glenwood Springs, have canceled their fireworks show because of the potential for fire, but Aspen authorities are taking a wait-and-see approach.
“At this point, yes, there will be fireworks, but the analyses are ongoing up to the point of the fireworks,” Pitkin County Undersheriff Ron Ryan said Monday.
The fireworks show is put on by the Aspen Chamber Resort Association. Erik Klanderud, the chamber’s director of members and services, said it would take a “major shift” in the weather to nix the fireworks.
