Snowmass offers wildfire prevention workshop on June 25

The Snowmass-Wildcat Fire Protection District will discuss the current wildfire conditions in Snowmass Village at an interactive workshop session on Wednesday.

Wildfire-safety experts from the Snowmass-Wildcat Fire Protection District, Bureau of Reclamation and Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, as well as guest speaker Kris Cooper, assistant fire marshal at the Colorado Springs Fire Department, will help educate and prepare Snowmass Village residents to address wildfire safety.

Cooper brings to the table his practical experiences and lessons learned from the devastating Mountain Shadows and Waldo Canyon fires in the Colorado Springs area. He will help to explain how the Colorado Springs community, although initially resistant, has practically and methodically learned how to mitigate the threat of wildfire and the advantages of being prepared.

The fire district’s goal is to help residents prepare, be aware and survive a wildfire event. The workshop starts at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Snowmass Village Town Hall.
