Longtime Roaring Fork Valley resident Lani A. Shaw was found dead in her Woody Creek home Monday.
Shaw, 46, was executive director of the General Service Foundation, an Aspen-based nonprofit dedicated to “bringing about a more just and sustainable world.”
According to the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, Shaw died of natural causes; the exact manner and cause of death are pending further medical testing. Shaw was found Monday after authorities received a report of an unconscious female on the floor of a home at the Woody Creek Plaza with no signs of life.
Shaw is survived by her two children — Jack, 11, and Katie, 9, who both attend the Aspen Community School — as well as her former husband Dan Sheridan, a local musician.
“Lani was an amazing woman — so strong, super sweet, adventurous and dedicated to children,” said Susie Lee, a longtime Aspenite whose son and Lani’s son were good friends. “Her passing is a huge loss to our community; our hearts go out to Lani’s family and friends.”
