A 43-year-old man was jailed in Aspen on Wednesday on suspicion of DUI and careless driving following a single-car accident on Highway 82.
Jason R. Thompson, whose address was not given, lost control of the gray Isuzu minivan he was driving near mile marker 52 at around 6:30 a.m., said Trooper Nate Reid, public information officer for the Colorado State Patrol. Thompson suffered minor injuries and was taken to Aspen Valley Hospital before being transported to the Pitkin County Jail, Reid said.
The area where the accident occurred is part of Independence Pass. It lies just east of the turnoff to Lincoln Creek Road, about eight miles from the summit.
Tracy Trulove, spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Transportation, said the road was partially closed for a few minutes at 11:40 a.m. to give a tow truck room to maneuver.
Reid said the vehicle left the road and slid down an embankment, nearly coming to rest in a stream. He did not know if the driver was traveling east or west.
No other details were available Wednesday.
