First Friday

Carbondale rolled out the red carpet, well, closed Main Street and parked a Crystal River Meats truck for a runway anyway, as a kickoff to spring this month. The wildly popular First Friday celebration, the town’s monthly tradition of highlighting the arts, shopping, music and dining, continues to grow thanks to the efforts of its volunteer committee and Chamber of Commerce.

The May 2 celebration began with a Spring Into Fun Family Block Party at the Village Smithy and Third Street for kids of all ages. As a benefit event, the Carbondale Recreation and Community Center provided activities, The Children’s Rocky Mountain School offered arts and crafts, and Carbondale Animal Rescue brought along adoptable pets.

Next up was a fashion show on the flatbed, with local women styled as models in clothing and accessories from Lulubelle, the chic boutique in downtown Carbondale. Brands including Ella Moss, Mila, Three Dots, Eberjey, Paige Denim, Joie and more made their way down the catwalk while a couple hundred people watched and applauded.

Afterward, a dance party broke out with kids getting into the groove and showing off their moves until just after dark.
