Venga Venga no longer opening in Aspen

Venga Venga Cantina and Tequila Bar will not be moving into the Mill Street pedestrian mall space previously occupied by Above the Salt, as negotiations have fallen through.

On Wednesday, Clayton Warwick, regional marketing manager for Richard Sandoval, who owns the Mexican-restaurant brand, announced that Sandoval had signed a lease for the space. However, negotiations continued that night and eventually broke down.

“Unfortunately, the deal fell through and Venga Venga is no longer opening in Aspen at this point in time,” Warwick wrote in an email to The Aspen Times.

Warwick could not be reached for exact details on why the agreement dissolved. The space, located at 305 S. Mill St., is owned by 305-7 Mill Street LLC, which is controlled by downtown developer Mark Hunt.

Sandoval had planned to open the restaurant, similar in concept to his Venga Venga Snowmass location, in mid-June, before the Food & Wine Classic.
