Down the rabbit hole

Carbondale’s sixth annual Green Is the New Black fashion extravaganza hit the runway on March 14 and 15. The Carbondale Recreation Center served as the epicenter for both sold-out shows, which featured sustainable fashions from local and national designers, all modeled by local men and women.

Alchemy Audio/Visual transformed the gymnasium with lights, sound and its high-tech projection mapping effect, taking the already eccentric event to a whole other level. In the theme of “Alice in Wonderland,” approximately 30 designers showcased their styles with an emphasis on recycled, upcycled and reused materials.

Hot commodities this year included hoodies, bustles, knits, gowns, sportswear, underwear, pajamas and swimwear. A trunk show followed Friday’s performance and preceded Saturday’s show with runway clothing and accessories for sale.

All proceeds benefit the Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities, raising funds to make arts education more accessible for youth in the community. Visit
