Sheriff seeks help in El Jebel store robbery

The man who used a knife and gun to rob a clerk at El Jebel Liquors of $400 on Monday remained at large Tuesday, according to the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office. The department released images of the suspect to try to get a lead.

The liquor store in El Jebel Plaza was robbed at about 5 p.m. by a Hispanic male who was wearing a blue bandanna around his face, authorities said.

“He pointed a handgun at the clerk, demanding that she empty the cash drawer into a plastic bag. While the clerk emptied the cash drawer, the suspect pulled out a knife and used both weapons to threaten the clerk,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The clerk was unharmed. The man fled on foot and was last seen in the El Jebel City Market area, authorities said. Law enforcement officials from Eagle and Pitkin counties and Basalt canvassed the area without luck.

The suspect is described as being 5 foot, 3 inches and of smaller build. He was wearing an all-white hooded sweatshirt, dark-blue jeans and white sneakers at the time of the incident.
