Aspen golf passes on sale

Passes are now on sale for the 2014 season at Aspen Golf & Tennis Club, where a new golf school will be welcomed in the coming weeks.

Director of golf Steve Aitken said Wednesday that the club has made a selection for the golf school and will seek Aspen City Council approval. Jack Small and Dede Cusimano, both golf professionals with local ties, have been chosen to replace Rabito Golf, a Florida-based company that has headed the school for the past three years. Small and Cusimano have been teaching at the Roaring Fork Club in Basalt for the past few seasons. In the winters, Cusimano runs a school in La Quinta, Calif.

“They have a lot of people that enjoy taking lessons from them,” Aitken said. “I think it’s a really good fit.”

He added that the club wants to sign a contract for three years with the new instructors, but nothing is official. He said Rabito Golf didn’t do anything wrong in the past three years, but he anticipates more of a local following with the new school.
