Escobar will hold a fundraiser Wednesday night for the residents of the Pan and Fork Mobile Home Park in Basalt.
The Aspen bar and nightclub will host the event from 9 to 11 p.m. Cash donations are welcome. There will be drink specials and a silent auction with gift certificates from local businesses. Escobar will donate a percentage of bar proceeds.
“Our goal is $5,000,” said Ryan Chadwick, one of the owners of Escobar Aspen, which is located at 426 E. Hyman Ave.
The residents are being relocated by the town of Basalt to get them out of the floodplain and so that the town can undertake a public works project. A contractor is easing the flood risk, restoring riverbanks and building a park. Residents are being offered financial aid to help with relocation, but many of them didn’t want to leave.
Chadwick said he wanted to help after reading about their plight.
“I decided a few weeks ago after reading all the press about the families and the deadline looming for eviction, I really wanted to help these families and kids out. It’s not about Aspen or Basalt for me. It’s more about giving back to the community as a whole. I figure every dollar counts, and the money may help them at least get to finish the school year and travel expenses if they need to commute.”
