Aspen High School students are staging the high-flying, Tony-winning musical comedy “Pippin” this weekend.

The beloved musical about a young prince trying to find his place in the world is bringing together students and teachers across disciplines, as the woodshop, art, music, band and theater departments come together for the common goal of putting on a show.

The Broadway classic is the final show for Aspen High seniors and local theater standouts Lyon Hamill – who last year won a Colorado State Thespian Conference Scholarship – as Pippin and Luke Ryan, who is heading to the American Music and Dramatic Academy in New York in the fall to study acting, as Leading Player.

Theater teacher Logan Carter is directing, with Marisa Post choreographing a 24-student cast (and a few teacher cameos).

“Pippin” opens Thursday and runs through Sunday at the Aspen District Theatre.
