Banana Season

SNOWMASS VILLAGE - As the mountains began to close in the 1980s, the burnt-out locals were out to celebrate the rite of spring with Banana Season activities such as the gong show, the clam-chowder cook-off, poker nights, banana limbo and obstacle races, tug of war, the Hawaiian Tropic Bikini Contest and the banana-cream-pie-eating contest. In 1986, the Snowmass Village event - the Bartender's Trophy - was won by Terry Long, of the Mountain Dragon, for his Banana Beach Ball drink. And the 10th annual Snowmass Village Cup Race - known as the Fruit Cup race - was won by Team Sport Kaelin, which defeated 31 other teams.
