Anderson Ranch announces artists in summer lecture series

SNOWMASS VILLAGE - Residents and visitors will share in a very special artistic experience this summer, as video artist Bill Viola, performance artist Marina Abramovic and eight additional internationally acclaimed visual artists present their work in the Featured Artists Lecture Series at Anderson Ranch Arts Center.

"Our summer lecture series brings some of the most significant contemporary artists to Aspen/Snowmass to enrich critical dialog and share new ideas and diverse points of view," said Barbara Bloemink, executive director.

Viola is a contemporary video artist who combines electronic, sound and image technology in new media, and he is the ranch's 2013 national artist honoree.

Marina Abramovic's performance "The Artist Is Present" drew a record crowd of more than 850,000 visitors to the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2010. The artist sat still for more than 700 hours, face to face, one at a time, with thousands of visitors. The 2013 Featured Artists Lecture Series is supported by Paula and Jim Crown and Nancy and Steve Crown.

The series begins June 13 and ends Aug. 22. All presentations are at 12:30 p.m. The schedule is as follows:

• July 5 - Radcliffe Bailey

• July 11 - Angel Otero

• July 18 - Hernan Bas

• July 19 - Bill Viola

• July 25 - Marina Abramovic´

• Aug. 8 - Xaviera Simmons

• Aug. 15 - Diana Thater

• Aug. 22 - Petah Coyne
