SNOWMASS VILLAGE - Season No. 45 at the Snowmass ski area officially closes on April 14 with a party for all ages in Base Village from 2 to 8 p.m.
Dress up in a ski outfit from your favorite decade ('60s, '70s, '80s, and '90s) and win a prize. Prizes include two new snowboards, a one-night stay at the Viceroy Snowmass and gift certificates from Base Village merchants. Or grab a gang of buddies and create your own Schneetag craft to float across a pond, and win even more prizes.
"We've all worked hard this ski season, and this is a thank-you to guests, locals, the lodging community and all of Snowmass' merchants," said Jerome Simecek, director of operations for Snowmass Hospitality. "The mountain has held up great, and this is a good get-together and some fun to say, 'Thank you.'"
The closing day party is hosted by the Base Village Merchants Association and sponsored by Viceroy Snowmass Resort and Residences, Aspen Snowmass, The town of Snowmass Village, the Treehouse Kids' Adventure Center, Slice, Base Camp, Sneaky's Tavern, the Aspen Times, Burger Bar and Fish, Four Mountain Sports, Snowmass Village Rotary Club and Snowmass Hospitality.
The Base Village Plaza will be a common-consumption area where you can enjoy your favorite adult beverage from Sneaky's Tavern, Slice, Burger Bar and Fish, or Base Camp. There will be live music on the plaza by DJ Ronnie from 2 to 5 p.m. and Spore Favore from 5 to 8 p.m.
The Burlingame chairlift will be open and free for those who wish to watch the Schneetag event above the Spider Sabich Picnic Palace from 1 to 3 p.m. Schneetag participants can get a free beer coupon at Sneaky's, Base Camp or Slice. Teams of four create a craft that they pilot down the ski slope and attempt to float across a 75-foot-by-20-foot pond. Every team has a theme and will perform a skit before it descends. There will be an awards ceremony at 4 p.m. in Base Village.
The Snowmass Village Rotary Club will operate a dunk tank in Base Village where you can get some of the town's favorite people wet. And the Pinnacle Vodka Girls will make a special appearance to give away swag at 2 p.m.
In the kids zone, Betty Hoops will be there with her hula-hoops, and kids can enjoy a bounce house, chalk art and face painting.
"I never want to see ski season end, but this season has been awesome," said Sue Way, director of the Treehouse Kids' Adventure Center. "There's snow this week, and it's looking to be a great weekend. Parents can go out and ski with their kids one more time, then come down and enjoy all the free activities in Base Village at the closing-day party."
"This winter has been great," Simecek said. "But we also want everyone to remember that Base Village is a great portal for all the summer fun in Snowmass, and we hope to see everyone back here then."
Parking in the Base Village Transit Center will be $10 all day on April 14.
