Thirty-plus years of family business

SNOWMASS VILLAGE - Gwyn's High Alpine Restaurant is one of the last privately run restaurants on the slopes in Aspen/Snowmass. In the 1970s, Aspen Skiing Co. expanded lift and trail access in Snowmass by adding the Alpine Springs area, including the restaurant. With the next expansion in 1978 of High Alpine, Gwyn Gordon Knowlton and George Gordon started their operations in the iconic restaurant. More than 30 years later, they and their extended family are still in operation. This image taken in March 1976 by Rick Lindner overlooks the High Alpine restaurant.

Editor's note: This page is a partnership between the Snowmass Sun and the Aspen Historical Society with two primary goals in mind: to improve the knowledge of Snowmass history in the region and to collect historical photographs of the Snowmass region for the society. If you have pieces of history to donate, please send them to archives@aspenhistory.org or call 970-925-3721.
