SNOWMASS - Skiers and snowboarders can catch the Elk Camp Gondola and Elk Camp chairlift at Snowmass until 6 p.m. Friday for sunset turns on the slopes.
Both lifts will run continuously and provide access to all terrain they access except the trails on Burnt Mountain, Longshot and those to the base of Two Creeks, according to Aspen Skiing Co.
The sunset skiing and snowboarding will be offered each Friday through March. The extended skiing will be held in conjunction with Ullr Nights at Elk Camp restaurant. A DJ will mix tunes on the deck from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Customers who stay through sunset skiing won't have to purchase an additional ticket to Ullr Nights, Skico said.
There will be no skiing or snowboarding down after the final ski-patrol sweep at 6 p.m. Everyone remaining on the mountain must download on the gondola.
Starting March 16, Skico will start running selected chairlifts across its four ski areas until 4 p.m. daily through the end of the season. The extended hours are possible because of the later sunsets.
On Aspen Mountain, the Silver Queen Gondola and Ajax Express will run until 4 p.m. starting March 16. At Aspen Highlands, the Exhibition lift will stay open until 4 p.m. At Snowmass, extra time will be offered on the Village Express and Sheer Bliss chairs as well as the Elk Camp Gondola. At Buttermilk, the Summit Express will stay open until 4 p.m.
