Council discusses town sustainability

SNOWMASS VILLAGE - The Snowmass Village Town Council met in a retreat on Feb. 13 to update its strategic plan approved last spring.

According to Town Manager Russ Forrest, the council gave direction for greater definition and rewording of goals in that document, and discussed in-depth sustainability and the town's position on it.

"They're really interested in being more aggressive in moving the needle in terms of more environmental programs in the town," Forrest said.

The council also wants to make sure its goals align with the comprehensive plan, which will be reviewed in the near future.

Forrest said the council didn't talk much about Base Village development in its meeting, as it is legally bound by certain agreements, but it did agree to review the process for planned-unit developments "so the council understands what to expect if and when amendments come in." That will also help with other applications not related to Base Village.

Staff will bring the plan back before council at a regular meeting to get more public input and so that the officials can approve it.
