Aspen Community Foundation provides grant to Lift-Up

ASPEN - The Aspen Community Foundation has provided Lift-Up with a $30,000 grant to help provide emergency food to needy individuals and families from Aspen to Parachute.

Lift-Up Executive Director Mike Powell said the foundation's continued support is vital because the demand for food from people who are scraping by continues to grow.

"We increased the amount of food we give out to families last year from three days worth of food to four, so we ended up distributing more than 50,000 bags of food in 2012 - a 51 percent increase over 2011 - so this grant helps us tremendously," Powell said in a statement.

Lift-Up operates seven food pantries in Aspen, Basalt, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, New Castle, Rifle and Parachute.
