SNOWMASS VILLAGE --The Pitkin County Sheriff's Office was conducting pacing operations on Highway 82, primarily through Snowmass Canyon, as conditions warranted during a winter storm earlier this week. Patrol Director Jeff Lumsden said with another round of storms on its way, those operations will continue as the weather calls for it.
Getting drivers into a safe pace creates fewer opportunities for accidents to happen, Lumsden said.
A winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service remains in effect until 6 p.m. Jan. 31. As of Jan. 29, the Weather Service was calling for 10 to 20 inches of snow. Winds and blowing snow are possible, which would make travel very hazardous or impossible, it said.
