Community fund donation drive starts Feb. 1

SNOWMASS VILLAGE - "Open Your Heart for Outreach," the fundraiser for the Snowmass Village Community Outreach Fund, will run throughout the month of February at Alpine Bank.

Supporters can purchase hearts of various sizes and prices, ranging from $5 to $100, in honor of a friend, family member or Valentine. The bank will match all the donations made.

Donations benefit the Community Outreach Fund, which was set up more than 20 years ago to assist people living or working in Snowmass Village who come upon hard times. The fund also provides some scholarship money to Village students. It is sponsored by Snowmass Chapel and Alpine Bank.

The hearts can be purchased any time during regular banking hours throughout February at Alpine Bank's Snowmass Center location. Volunteers will be on site from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays to sell hearts, explain the purpose of the fund, help donors display their Valentines and offer sweets.

The fund has a board of directors who decide how money will be allocated. The members are Robert deWetter, Marion Garrett, Betsy Burns Sima, Nancy Ferguson, Mary Lou Farrell and Tyler Newton. Those who know of someone in need can contact a board member or email Caroline Gibson, Snowmass Chapel administrative director, at
