Aspen school board extends superintendent's contract

ASPEN - The Aspen Board of Education on Tuesday extended Superintendent John Maloy's contract through June 30, 2016.

Maloy, who was promoted to superintendent of the Aspen School District in 2010, has a rolling contract that was set to expire in June 2015. The board's unanimous vote to extend it another year - at an annual salary of $156,000 - was "a show of support," according to board President Charla Belinski.

"This shows that the board has confidence in John's leadership and we believe he is leading us in the right direction," she said. "And I don't want to downplay the fact that under his tenure, the Aspen School District has received numerous accolades."
