ASPEN - Operations at Buttermilk are being altered because of preparations for the Winter X Games, Aspen Skiing Co. announced.
The Buttermilk Superpipe has been turned over to the ESPN crew and is closed to the public, Skico said. Uncle Chuck's Glades and Jacob's Ladder remain open; however, Spruce, Spruce Face and Government are closed for temporary structures that will be necessary for television coverage. Panda Peak will close Sunday to build the course for the Snowmobile SnoCross.
No uphill traffic will be allowed on Main Buttermilk starting Sunday. Both the Tiehack and West routes remain open and uphillers can still download on the Summit Express.
Parking is extremely limited because much of the lot is being used as a staging area for X Games preparation. Skiers and riders are still urged to come because the slopes are largely empty, but they should take the bus. Roaring Fork Transportation Authority buses roll through the traffic circle near the Summit Express chairlift every 15 minutes.
