In reference to Friday's letter "Why no recycling bins?" from Kevin Michelson: While the new Elk Camp restaurant might be working through operations challenges, including recycling efforts, I assure all that efforts are and have been improving at many mountain locations.
We, the workers and management at Up-4-Pizza, have been recycling for many years! We clean and compact large tin cans and lids, plastic Nos. 1 through 6, aluminum and glass bottles.
We have multiple labeled recycle bins inside and outside our restaurant. I have witnessed Aspen Skiing Co. adding more labeled recycling bins at the bus depot, around the ticket pavilion and at the top of the Village Express chairlift.
Doing the right thing by looking for the appropriate receptacle for all trash, even if it requires holding on to said trash till you can place it properly, is everyone's responsibility. Recycling involves participation, thinking and some effort.
The more plastic, aluminum and tin that is repurposed and kept out of landfills allows space for true trash.
I also know Sam's Smoke House and Ullrhoff have active recycling programs and bins. We all can improve our efforts if we look for Nos. 1 through 6 on all packaging. Empty, clean and compacted, and caps removed are basic rules for success!
We welcome everyone's help.
