Ten inches and counting

SNOWMASS VILLAGE - A much-anticipated snowstorm dropped 10 inches of fresh snow on the Snowmass ski area overnight, according to an early-morning report Wednesday from the Aspen Skiing Co.

The National Weather Service released an updated winter storm warning shortly after noon today, saying that snow will continue to fall across most western mountain ranges in the state until this evening.

Close to a foot of snow brought lots of skiers and snowboarders out to the slopes this morning, and it will also allow Skico to open more terrain on its four area mountains. On Snowmass, Sheer Bliss run and lift and Glissade run opened for the season today, as well as Lower Green Cabin and Funnel Bypass.

The National Weather Service warned that roads would continue to be icy and snowpacked. The chain law went into effect early this morning in Snowmass Village. Chains or snow tires are required for all vehicles on the road.
