Meet a real winner tonight

Dear Editor:

I am blatantly plugging a new book by a local resident and a book-signing event from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Aspen Club and Spa.

But I don't have to work very hard at this hype because both the book and its author are remarkable by themselves.

Win Charles, 25, has written her life story. Her memoir is a straightforward telling of her journey, so far, as a disabled woman living in a nondisabled world.

The memoir is titled "I, Win" and pays special honor to Win's mother, Carolanne Charles, who passed away in 2010. Carolanne always told her daughter the truth: "Win, you are a winner!"

Win is the CEO of an artwork company, Aspen Rose Arts. She is currently serving as the vice president of a nonprofit organization, Valley Life for All. She is working on a children's book and has plans to write a novel, too.

If you want to meet one of the gutsiest people you'll ever know, meet the author Win Charles today. And, by the way, she is donating a portion of her book's sales to the Chris Klug Foundation.

Win could have been the originator of the saying, "I felt sorry for myself because I had no shoes until I met someone who had no feet."

In the wonderful spirit of Western pioneers, and Colorado's in particular, Win Charles has true grit.
