Something's rotten in the state of Basalt

Dear Editor:

When chatting with people these days, I often get the impression that traits such as ethics, integrity and principles are considered novel concepts outside the fanatical right-wing hyperbole of politics and religion (with a few exceptions).

Not so with Roderick O'Connor, who has been a neighbor and friend for decades. If anyone on this earth strives to translate higher principles into practical action in his everyday life, it is him. Scores of people believe this of Roderick, which is why the dance of the seven veils casting doubts on his character is creating such a stunned, outraged reaction in the community up and down the valley.

I smell a rat of a low-down political hue (so who is after his job and why?). If mean-spirited, power-tripping forces are allowed to prevail in this struggle, then I hope Basalt takes stock of the direction it will be moving toward.

I would trust Roderick O'Connor with my life, and along with his many supporters, I insist he be heard if that is his wish. He appears to have less to hide than the forces initiating this debacle.
