Council candidates focused on wrong thing

Dear Editor:

Buy fire insurance!

That's my advice after reading the answers from the council candidates in last weeks paper. Not a single one of them even mentioned the looming danger of a fire wiping out the Snowmass area and village. We all talk about the Base Village - please - that is cold coffee. It's behind us. If there was anything the town could actually do to affect change there, it would have been done. Related knows the strength of their position, which is basically, "just be grateful we are back, Snowmass Village, now leave us alone."

Back to fire. The inaction of this community regarding fire protection reminds me of the Bush administration before 9/11. Staggering - all the signs are there - even entire communities nearby have been destroyed. But nothing.

We worry about tourism and quality of life here in Snowmass. Just think about what it will be like for a few years after the fire - and trust me, the question is not if, but when, in regards to the fire.

Sadly, this village seems to need to learn the hard way.
