ASPEN - A springtime tradition for endurance junkies returns to Aspen Mountain on Saturday.
America's Uphill, which has attracted hundreds of participants, is set to begin at 7 a.m. at the base of Little Nell. Participants climb 3,267 feet of Aspen Mountain, including the seemingly never-ending trek up Spar Gulch, before finishing at the Sundeck restaurant.
The race has divisions for telemark, heavy metal/Randonee, track skis and open (snowshoes, running shoes, Stabilicers, etc.).
Preregistration is $35 and runs through 10 p.m. Thursday at www.active.com or 4 p.m. Friday in person at the Ute Mountaineer. Race-day registration is $45 and will be held from 6 to 6:30 a.m. in the gondola building at the base of Aspen Mountain.
One dollar of each race fee is donated to Mountain Rescue Aspen.
This year's race is dedicated to the memory of Erik Kinsman, Scott Edmondson and Fritz Stamberger. In keeping with the tradition of St. Patrick's Day - the day the race will be held - participants are encouraged to wear green.
