Dear Editor:

On behalf of the Mount Sopris Nordic Council in Carbondale, I'd like to invite all cross-country skiers to join us this weekend for a really fun event at the Spring Gulch Nordic Ski Area above Carbondale. It's called Ski for Sisu, an event that has been held annually for the past 20 — yes, 20 — years to raise money for our track-grooming operation at Spring Gulch.

The event is Sunday (before the Super Bowl). Sign-up begins at 9:30 a.m. The start is at 10 a.m., and the finish at 3 p.m. It's a “skiathalon,” which means you show up anytime between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., and ski as far as you can.

The more you ski, the more money is raised for Spring Gulch. You can gather pledges from your friends or just make a donation of any size at sign up! There is no entry fee. We're providing hearty refreshments and a silent auction. Auction items include a spa pass for Avalanche Ranch and dinners at 689, Russets, etc.

For all who ski 25 kilometers or more, there is a commemorative T-shirt, and it's a beauty this year — the 25th anniversary of Spring Gulch! Cross-country skiers of all ages, sizes and ability are invited to join us. It's going to be sunny and warm and fun!
