ASPEN — A round of auditions for the popular Fox TV talent show “American Idol” will take place in Aspen next month, a representative for the show confirmed Tuesday.

“We will be coming to Aspen to film,” the representative said, declining to reveal any other details.

A three-person film crew for the show has been issued a city film permit for two days of shooting in Aspen, on Oct. 5-6. The crew intends to shoot supplemental footage for the show, called B-roll, at sites around town, said City Clerk Kathryn Koch.

The auditions are reportedly to take place at a local hotel. Filming on private property does not require a permit, Koch said.

The show is advertising online for production assistants in or around the Aspen area. According to the ad: “Job duties include, but are not limited to: helping set up, take down, assisting producers, crowd control, registration, driving production vehicles, and day-to-day office work.” The work will take place on Oct. 5 and 6, the ad indicates.

The 11th season of the show is scheduled to begin airing Jan. 22, after the NFC Championship game on Fox. Host Ryan Seacrest and judges Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez are all slated to return.

The show held its first round of auditions for the new season last summer in seven cities around the country, including Denver on July 29. Thousands of Idol hopefuls showed up at Invesco Field at Mile High to audition before a panel of the show's producers.

In St. Louis, which hosted a first round of auditions, the show returned for round two, bringing Seacrest and the judges to a downtown hotel to hear contestants who made the first cut, according to a Sept. 3 report in stltoday.com. That audition featured a brief press conference with the judges and Seacrest, but no media contact with contestants, stltoday.com reported.

Asked Tuesday about the show's plans to shoot in Aspen, Mayor Mick Ireland said: “This is news to me.”
