ASPEN – Aspen Film has announced the program for Aspen Shortsfest 2010, the 19th annual celebration of short films. The festival is set for April 6-11, with programs in Aspen and Carbondale.

The Shortsfest International Competition, a qualifying event for the Academy Awards, will present 85 short films, including documentaries, dramas, comedies and animated works, in 10 screening programs.

More than 2,500 submissions from 80 countries were received, and the final program includes films from North and South America, Africa, Asia, Europe and the Pacific. Among the films are “The Cow Who Wanted to Be a Hamburger,” by Shortsfest regular and Oscar nominee Bill Plympton; “The Continuing and Lamentable Saga of the Suicide Brothers,” starring Keira Knightley; “Gone to the Dogs,” starring Martha Plimpton; and “Sunday's Best,” co-directed by part-time Aspenite Dennis Scholl.

Special Shortsfest events include the kids-friendly Films for Families; Micro Moviemaking, a seminar led by filmmaker Lewis Teague; and Tropfest's Best: 7 Minutes or Less, featuring highlights from a popular Australian shorts festival.
