Thank you/Gracias

Dear Editor:

English In Action held our first community fundraiser — the Fiesta de Tamales — at the El Jebel Community Center on Oct. 10.

This was a unique event. The tamales were prepared by a group of dedicated volunteer tutors and adult students, and attendees included a truly diverse cross-section of our community, ranging from participants in our programs to community leaders. The party was a fundraiser to support English In Action's programs, which help adults to learn English and to participate more fully as community members. Annually nearly 200 individuals participate in our programs as students, and more than 125 community members volunteer as tutors.

We were humbled by the support of the dozens of individuals who gave their time to make this event possible. In particular, we'd like to thank our core committee members: Adriana Cabrera Torres, Angelica Duque, Aranzazu Santana Salvatierra, Chuck Cory, Kim Chang and Ellen Speers.

We are also deeply grateful for the support of the businesses and individuals that made donations to make this fundraiser possible. These include Alchemy Audio Visual and Concert Systems, Basalt Printing, Clark's Market, Jim Condit, the Crawford family, El Korita, Garcia's Mini Store, The Little Nell, Joede Schoeberlein, Taqueria El Nopal and Teresa's Market.
