Storm drops heavy snow on northeast Colorado

DENVER — Parts of northeast Colorado are covered in heavy snow from a storm moving through the state.

The National Weather Service says trained spotters reported 9.1 inches of snow Wednesday night in Arapahoe County and 4 inches in Fairplay.

A winter storm warning was in effect through early Thursday in the plains of western Kit Carson County and southwestern Yuma County, not far from the Kansas line.

Further west in the Rocky Mountains, Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mountain National Park officially closed for the season after days of drifting snow, high winds and temperatures below freezing above 10,000 feet.

In the Aspen area, gray skies Wednesday produced only drizzle and a dusting of snow on the high peaks. Thursday dawned bright and sunny.
