Vail Resorts won't seek control of The Canyons

DENVER - Vail Resorts, in a court filing in Denver on Tuesday, indicated it is not seeking control of The Canyons ski resort in Utah. The filing comes as the latest move in a long-running dispute with Talisker Corp., which purchased The Canyons last year.

According to a report in the Park Record newspaper, Vail Resorts' action essentially leaves Talisker as the owner of the largest mountain resort in Utah.

The court filing gives Talisker ownership or interest in terrain stretching from The Canyons to the banks of the Jordanelle Reservoir.

The motion Vail Resorts filed Tuesday in Denver District Court would also dismiss American Skiing Co., the former owner of The Canyons, from the lawsuit. American Skiing Co. announced two years ago it was selling The Canyons to Talisker Corp. But Vail Resorts claimed the company had negotiated with American Skiing Co. to buy the ski area before Talisker reached a deal.

While the court filing states Vail Resorts won't attempt to reverse the sale to Talisker, the company stated it reserves the right to seek monetary damages.
